Quiksilver All 80's All Day Vert Challenge at Surf Expo
A flash back to the glory days of skateboarding when bright colors and big boards ruled the Vert ramp. Quiksilver gave us another opportunity to relive some of our favorite 80's tricks done by some of the best Skaters from the 80's. This wasn't a contest for the groms, this was a contest for the long time skateboarder to remember what the old days used to be like. Each skater competing in the contest took the opportunity to wear their favorite 80's gear as they took turn shredding Vert ramp.The first part of the contest was broken down to two heats. After that there was a jam session where the skaters received $100 hard cash for landing certain 80's tricks. The tricks were submitted to ShredOrDie.com the weeks before the event, and then were announced off to the skaters to perform. Hosoi got $100 for doing a Christ Air! At the end of the jam session the heat scores and jam session scores wereadded up. 1st place went to none other than Mr. Tony Hawk himself, 2ndwas Andy Mac, 3rd was Mike Frazier, 4th was Hosoi, 5th was Mike Mcgill.

I've created a monster....no, a monsta....another in the new "Wild Turkey" series... This cheeter board keeps the speed constant, yet has the hold of a normal good waves shortboard. It is similar to the falcon, but with a slightly more pulled in nose and a wide squashtail for maximum lift. Where the Falcon had a spiral vee contour running through the fin cluster, I've plowed all the guts out of it and left one deep even concave with subtle inset doubles running through the fins and even concave running right off the tail block. When I shaped the first one, I didn't think it would work, but somehow the water compresses through the tail just fine (I think cause of the concave off the tailblock) and makes for a lightning fast board that you can push full force on the tail block without worrying about any slipping. Basically you get all the speed of the Rascal and Falcon, but you never have to let off the gas going into or coming out of maneuvers. Ride this one 3-4 inches shorter and " wider than your standard good waves shortboard. The high performance great grandchild of the Rascal.
